This past school year a group of students led a leadership group with the entire freshmen class called M3 (Mindset, Motivation & Metacognition - see those M's again), this was a study hall activity where students explored brain development, internal motivations, barriers to learning and defining key characteristics to be a strong learner. Students engaged in activities that challenged them to reflect on what motivates them, what makes the learning environment a challenge and how to capitalize on their learning and tools they have at their fingertips.
At the start of the school year, with the help of the school counseling staff students will again lead the conversation about positive mindsets and setting the right tone to be successful. This year we will provide these same activities and more! We are looking to structure the program similar to last year with a few tweaks.
If you choose to be a Freshmen Mentor we would expect the following:
- Participation in M3 training on August 21st and 22nd 9am-2pm
- Participation in Freshmen Orientation on August 28th
- Lead 10 M3 Advisory sessions at the beginning of the school year during our New Falcon Flex Block (Block 5)
- Follow up with Monthly check ins with Freshmen Homerooms
This is a great leadership opportunity for students to be involved in. We want North Country students to take ownership of their learning, and the school culture as a whole. We are seeking students to join the M3 Leadership Group so that they may be an integral member of our school culture and positive environment. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Amy Pickering or Anita Mayhew.
We hope to set the tone of the school year on positivity, motivation and perseverance.
